John Kartsonas - Founder and Managing Partner

John was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Carlyle Commodity Management from 2011 to 2017, a commodity focused investment firm based in New York and part of the Carlyle Group. He was responsible for the firm’s Shipping and Freight investments. During his tenure, he managed one of the worlds largest freight futures funds globally. Prior to his role, John was a Co-Founder and Portfolio Manager of Sea Advisors Fund, an investment fund focused in Shipping. From 2004 to 2009, John was the leading Transportation Analyst at Citi Investment Research covering the broader transportation space including Shipping. Prior to that, John was an Equity Analyst focusing on Shipping and Energy for Standard & Poor’s Investment Research. John sits on the Board of Seanergy Maritime, a publicly-traded dry bulk shipping company , listed in NASDAQ under the symbol “SHIP”. John received his MBA from the Simon School of Business, University of Rochester.

Nikos Kanellopoulos- Director, Business Development

Nikos was a Director at Southern Star Shipping from 2008 to 2017, a New York based private holding company that controls assets in dry bulk shipping and global agribusiness. He was responsible for the management of a global commodity trading business and certain functions of the largest FMCG company in Sub-Saharan Africa. He was also a member of the investment committee, responsible for investment strategy and execution. During his tenure, Nikos built the third larges sugar business in Nigeria and oversaw the valuation of all shipping transactions. From 2005 to 2008, Nikos shared his time between Jeffries and BNP Paribas as an associate in corporate finance and debt capital markets, covering industries such as Shipping, Oil and Gas and General Industrials. Nikos holds an MSC in transportation from Imperial College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
